Taylor Hawkins's son pays tribute to his dad by drumming "My Hero"

Taylor Hawkins’s son pays tribute to his dad by drumming “My Hero”:  Shane Hawkins, the late Taylor Hawkins‘ son, played the drums to “My Hero” by the Foo Fighters at a Laguna Beach block party over the Fourth of July holiday.

In a TikTok video uploaded on July 7, Shane Hawkins joined local band the Alive to perform the song on Monday during a performance on a rooftop in the neighborhood.

The caption of the video reads, “When Taylor Hawkins’ son gets on the drums and dedicates the song ‘My Hero’ to his dad. The hawk would have been satisfied.”

“Thanks to the Laguna Beach community, police (for not shutting us down) , @spliffriff_ and the @marcusskenderian family. Special thanks to @shane_hawkins_22 for sitting in,” The Alive wrote in a commemorative Instagram post.

Just one week prior to the drummer’s passing, the teenage band, who were friends with Shane Hawkins, had previously opened up for Taylor Hawkins’ cover band, Chevy Metal, as well as for Foo Fighters at Lollapalooza Chile. Many audience members were close friends and acquaintances because Taylor Hawkins grew up in Laguna Beach and frequently visited; this made for a strong and moving performance.

Taylor Hawkins death

In March, while the Foo Fighters were on tour in Bogota, Colombia, Taylor Hawkins passed away at the age of 50. The news of his passing shocked the music industry, and rock royalty like Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Morello, Courtney Love, and others paid tribute to the drummer on social media.

In September, the Foo Fighters will perform two tribute shows in Los Angeles and London, featuring artists such as Brian May, Roger Taylor, Chrissie Hynde, Josh Homme, Miley Cyrus, and more.

According to Consequence, Hawkins’ son previously performed on stage with his father, joining him and Dave Grohl on drums for a cover of the Rolling Stones‘ “Miss You” during a 2018 Chevy Metal show.
